Symbolic Art
While Mr. Hinders‘ History class studied the middle ages, we looked at the art from the time period. Medieval art was full of religious symbolism. The Catholic Church had the funds to commission the majority of the art during this era. Because most people were illiterate at that time, artists used well recognized symbols to communicate ideas. Our art students created their own pieces with some sort of symbolism. They used a combination of watercolor and oil pastel.

Mandalas
Seward High Art Students just finished a Mandala project. We began by looking at Eastern style Mandalas and talking about radial symmetry. Students came up with patterns or symbols to repeat around a circle. They used color pencil to color them in and had the option to make a background in any medium. They turned out awesome, great job!

Lyrical Prints
As a class, we studied Positive and Negative Space, and practiced making designs which not only focused on the positive objects, but the negative space around them.
