Surrealistic Encaustic Paintings

by e10391

We began by studying the Surrealism Art Movement, which occurred after WWI and was heavily influenced by the teachings of Sigmund Freud.  This type of artwork defied logic and attempted to tap into the subconscious, or dreamworld.  For our surrealistic paintings, we used wax as our medium, melting crayons onto pancake griddles and painting with them.  We also experimented with collage techniques, burying paper in the layers of wax.  Here are the results!

Nikki Farquharson Style Drawings

by e10391

After looking at the artwork by illustrator Nikki Farquharson, Seward High Art Students made their own patterned artwork using markers.  They traced or collaged in the main figure, then developed intricate patterns for the background.  I think they turned out really nice!

Middle School Color Wheel Paintings

by e10391

This semester I have had the pleasure to teach one period of middle school art a day.  The 7th and 8th graders at Seward Middle School have impressed me with their creativity and skills!  For our first project, students first learned how to mix all 12 colors of the color wheel by using the primary colors, Red, Yellow and Blue.  They then hand drew a design for a painting and mixed all the colors that went into them.  Here are the results, great job!
