Seward High Art – Oil Pastel Eye Self Portraits

by e10391

In the 2-D art class at Seward High, we began the year by looking at the human eye.  Students studied the assemetrical eye shape, roundness of the eyeball, intricacies of the iris, edge of the eye lid, reflections off the eye, shape of the lashes and brow, and the tear duct.  Taking this into account, they then made a large self portrait of their eye on black poster paper using oil pastels.  Through the colors they used and designs they added, this project became a sort of self portrait of their inner personalities as well.  They did an amazing job.

Wow! Fantastic work. I love the bright colors. I love how the basic shape is the same, but there is so much expression and individuality in each piece. ~Mrs. Wade
