SHS Scratchboard
Scratchboard comes in sheets with a black layer on top and white, gold, or silver underneath. Students placed photos on top of the scratch board and traced over the contours of the image. This leaves dents in the scratchboard, which are used as guides on where to scratch. Students were challenged to create a scratchboard which showed different values, textures, and showed three dimensional form. They used exacto knives to scratch away the black layer, paying attenction to the directions of their strokes (texture, form) and how dense their scratch marks were (value).
I think they did a great job!
