Scratchboard
Seward High Art Students just finished a Scratchboard Unit. They began by finding a photo that they wanted to base their scratchboard off of. Next, students taped their photo over a piece of scratchboard and traced around the contour lines. Scratchboard is black and when scratched with needle like tools reveals a white, silver or gold interior layer. Students were instructed to scratch away the light areas of their image, building up different values through hatching. Here are some results!

These are wonderful—I wish adults could come in and take the class too. Great work art students and art teacher!!!
